What is rubber mulch?
Rubber mulch is a surfacing product made from recycled vehicle tyres by shredding the tyres into varying depths and lengths. These are then polyurethane coloured to make a useful recycled rubber surfacing product.
The recycled rubber mulch is available in a choice of 4 colours:
These colours can be mixed together also. A very popular natural-looking mix is a combination of green, brown and terracotta.
Where is it used?
The resin bonded rubber mulch can be used wherever a soft, safe and longlasting surface is required. We have installed the safety surfacing in many schools, day nurseries, tourist attractions, golf courses, domestic gardens and paths and patios throughout the UK.
One of the key benefits of using Safer Surfacing recycled rubber mulch, either as a loose fill material or as a resin bound material is the amount of surface preparation required is minimal.
Safer Surfacing rubber mulch can be applied over almost any surface including flagstones, concrete, tarmac, MOT type 1 and grass.
When applying over grass we simply mark out the area to be covered, cut the grass very short and then apply a weed killer to the area. We then lay a weed suppressant membrane and then lay the mulch directly over it.
This typically laid to a depth of 40mm upwards, depending on any critical fall height requirements.
We advise creating a ‘V’ channel around the perimeter when laying Safer Surfacing resin bound surface so that the mulch can be laid into the ‘V’. A safe edge is then created as there is no trip area.
